Fantastic stuff. Truely superb. The way I think about it is that when these inexperienced directors you talk of sit in front of the monitor on set, they see a manifestation of their ideas in front of them, and they IMAGINE the scene, they hear the perfect audio in their heads. They fail to realise that that the audio actually needs to be captured somehow in often very difficult conditions.

excellent site mr woody! Heres a list of my main dialogue editing pains, some frequent, some rare (unique I hope in the case of the first one):
- boom combined with scratchy lav for unknown reason
- no handles
- no region naming
- no sound reports/lined script
- no room tones
- unnecessary overlaps tainting otherwise useful dialogue
-camera noise
- dialogue too close to 'action' or 'cut'
I could go on for a long, long time. :)
Sorry for the whinge I could also list the good things, but most of them can be summed up by 'clear, clean and close dialogue on boom'. :)

I have been reading up on foley acting for months after my audio engineering graduation and it is a dream. After reinacting the pirates of the carribean scene when he is walking down the peir after his ship sinks (to perfection) I have been fascinated by foley.

i am only 12 years old but i have been researching this job (strangely enough) not for school, and i really would like to become a foley artist. I have visited universal studies and it looks facinating with the amount of importance it has to a movie! is their anyway i can talk to someone that also does this for a living or knows something about this career? thanx!

I have been playing live music for the last ten years and I have been using JBLs for my live speakers. Anyway I got into recording a year ago and recently I wanted to get some great monitors and a friend of mine mentioned JBL LSR 4328 Monitors. All I can say they are expensive, however they do a great job and I happy with the sound.

As a software solution to these problems iZotope's RX is the best I've used so far. I use Cedar hardware products as well, but for software this one is killer.
